Positive Material Identification

Positive Material Identification (PMI) is a quick, non-destructive analysis technique to determine composition of material, especially alloys and crystalline structures. There are mainly three different types of PMI techniques that are used for measuring product and determining constituents of materials.

  • X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) – PMI technique in which the chemical composition is determined by using high energy radiation (X-rays or Gamma rays). After radiation is bombarded at the material, the (secondary) emission is captured and this fluorescent X-ray emission is measured to determine composition
